Countless other characters pass in and out of this rare charmer without much fanfare, but thanks towards the film’s sly wit and fully lived-in performances they all leave an improbably lasting impression.
The Altman-esque ensemble method of creating a story around a particular event (in this situation, the last day of high school) had been done before, although not quite like this. There was a great deal of ’70s nostalgia while in the ’90s, but Linklater’s “Slacker” followup is more than just a stylistic homage; the large cast of characters are made to feel so common that audiences are essentially just hanging out with them for a hundred minutes.

The visit is, to the most part, goes like every previous visit. Dr. Wolf is happy to answer Austin’s issues and hear his concerns about his improvement. But with the first time, however, the doctor can’t help but see the way in which the boy is looking at him. He realizes the boy’s bashful glances are mostly directed towards his concealed manhood and long, tall body. It’s clear that the young guy is interested in him sexually! The doctor asks Austin to remove his clothes, continuing with his scheduled examination, somewhat distracted because of the appealing view on the small, young male perfectly exposed.
